Vestry minutes, June 15th

Attendees: The Reverend Patty Mouer, Rosanne Gourlay, Owen Halpeny, Susan Tarbell, Andy Anderson The Reverend Dn. Barbara Plimpton. Quorum not present.

Not present: Nancy Davis, Jeanne Ye Harbison, Vic Trantham, Bill Keith, Ginny Hunneke, Bruce Stahle.

After Scripture reflection and prayer, the meeting began at 12:15p.
The Reverend Patty presented the Minutes of the last vestry meeting, held May 18, 2008. Since a quorum was not present, they were not approved.

Treasurer’s Report – Andy Anderson
Report was unanimously accepted. Revenue sources of note: bequest came from the benefactor’s estate; fundraiser netted $1,066.55. Expenditures of note: youth pastor’s salary (shared by several other local Episcopal churches). Patty noted that pledges are lagging behind projection; Andy says pledge statements (for first half of 2008) will be sent out in July.

Rector’s Report – Patty Mouer
The Reverend Patty reviewed current pastoral concerns and mentioned the importance of the workshop “A Call To Listen” on June 28. During the time of her vacation, The Reverend Patty will leave the phone number of either the junior or senior warden on the answering machine, as well as contact information for a priest in case of pastoral emergencies. Audit, due August 1, is a comprehensive review of church procedures; the report will go first to the Finance Committee, then to the Diocese. St. Luke’s needs to set up an endowment fund. Some handouts were shared. Andy mentioned that a plan is needed. It would establish guidelines for the reduction of the principle, where the income goes, where the fund would go should the church close, etc. General agreement that an endowment board is essential. Owen and Ginny obtained a master document in pdf form; it will be formatted and made ready for the next vestry meeting. Vic Trantham regretfully resigns his post on the vestry. The job description for the administrative assistant is nearly completed; Ginny and Owen will assist in the final review of the document.

Evangelism – no vestry liaison at the present time

Outreach –Jeanne Ye Harbison (not present); Susan Tarbell (present). Barbara reported on the successful completion of the envelope-stuffing project for the Rathbun Center. Susan mentioned the possibility of a dinner in June for Rathbun. Box lunches will be made for Church of the Advocate again this year. XYZ Group has a barbeque planned.

Adult Christian Education – Owen Halpeny (present)
The Tuesday evening reading group will meet June 24 to discuss the first few chapters of The Great Divorce; David Moser will lead the discussion.
