Vestry Meeting
October 23, 2011

The meeting was called to order with prayer.  Members present were Christie Dickson, Terry Guthrie, Kathryn Brightbill, Sally Monroe, Steve Savage, Bruce Stahle, Rev. Patty Mouer, and Sherry Shields.  Members absent were Jan Trantham and Kate Chason.

Minutes:  Minutes from the September meeting were not available

Rector’s Report:  Pastoral concerns were discussed.  Bill Currie and Al Jensen will be moving out of state to be closer to family. The adult Christian education class is going well.  The topic for the next class will be “Biblical Geography”.  The children’s Christian education in the Atrium is going well with 8 to 10 children attending.

Finance Report:  Income for September was $9,015.47Expenditures for September were $7,836.18.  The only unusual expenditure was $890.00 for the preservation of St. Luke’s charter.  St. Luke’s received a letter from NC stating one of our self employed contractors had not paid state taxes and we should garnishee his wages.  Patty sent a letter explaining he is a self employed contractor and therefore has no wages. All contractors doing work for St. Luke’s should complete a 1099 Form.  A motion was made by Kathryn Brightbill and seconded by Christie Dickson to accept the financial report.  Motion carried unanimously.

Buildings and Grounds:  November 6 will be a work day to wash the siding of the parish house, rake and do some painting.  Installation of handicap seat on the toilet was discussedIt was decided to use a temporary removable seat for now.  Plans for the bathroom renovation include installation of a taller toilet and a handicap bar.  It was also decided to designate the back left pew as you are facing the altar, for those folks who need to keep their legs straight.  The kneeler at that pew will be fastened so it cannot be lowered.Riverlink has contacted St. Luke’s stating we are next in line for funds for the Ross Creek Project.  There will be an information session Thursday, October 27 at 5:30.

New Business:  Creation of new altar kneelers was discussed.  A designer will create the designs for each kneeler, paint the design on the needlepoint canvas, and assemble a kit with all needed materials for each kneeler.  The total estimate for the needlepoint portion of the kneelers is $4,000.00.  After the needlepoint is complete, an upholsterer will assemble the kneelers for an estimated $4,000.00.  A deposit of $1000.00 will be required when the designs are approved and $4000.00 will be required when the kits are ordered.  The other $4000.00 will not be required until all the needlepoint is complete which is estimated to take a minimum of 2 years. The investment disbursement from the Diocese of $8,000.00 was discussed to fund the kneeler project.  No decision on funding was made. After discussion, it was decided to purchase a recycling receptacle to be used in the downstairs kitchen.  Also, a new can will be purchased for the upstairs kitchen that is easier to open. An AA and a 4H group will begin meeting at St. Luke’s.  The Use of Facilities Policy needs revision.  Patty, Sally, and Sherry will review and revise the policy and present the revisions to the Vestry.

Old Business:  St. Luke’s Day was so well attended, some folks ate in the gazebo.  It was brought to the Vestry’s attention that some folks would like to see the Parish House expanded. The Bazaar went well.  The income from the Bazaar was $426.00.  In the future, when any fund raiser is planned, a vestry member needs to be in charge of the money collected and needed reimbursements.  The Vestry, by consensus, decided to divide the proceeds evenly between outreach and Rector’s Discretionary Fund. Terry Guthrie will write the letter for the stewardship campaign for 2012. The contractor has not called back about renovation of the attic space, office, and bathroom.  St. Luke’s will be asked to pledge to the The Lake Logan Capital Campaign.  The Vestry was asked to be thinking about how we might want to respond. Jan Trantham, Kathryn Brightbill, Steve Savage and Patty will meet to discuss and recruit candidates for the vestry for 2012, Ways that St. Luke’s might be able to use Rev. Wes Shields was discussed. The Parish Christmas party will be December 4.  Patty will contact someone to organize the party.

The meeting was adjourned with prayer at 2:00.

Respectfully submitted,

Sherry Shields
